60 Years of Wildfreigehege Wildenburg

The Wildfreigehege Wildenburg has been an important excursion destination for 60 years. Generations of visitors have experienced animals here, gone on family outings, and gathered experiences of nature. What began with the Hunsrückverein is being further developed today at the National Park Gate Wildenburg: as a vibrant place for animal encounters, environmental education, recreation, and regional identity. Thus, the wildlife park connects the past and the future and remains a destination where nature can be experienced up close.

This year, the Wildfreigehege Wildenburg celebrates its 60th anniversary. It was opened in 1966 by the Hunsrückverein. For many decades, the association managed the park, developed it further, and turned it into a popular destination in the Hunsrück. At the end of 2023, the Hunsrückverein handed over operations to the National Park Administration. The administration has developed a comprehensive concept for the site. It plans for the renovation and expansion of the wildlife park into a fully-fledged visitor center at the National Park Gate Wildenburg.
